Fun Fact 2: Taipei 101 is the world's highest-located earthquake research centre
Taipei 101 is home to the world's highest-located earthquake research center, which conducts studies and gathers data to enhance seismic safety measures and contribute to earthquake research and engineering.
Aside from that, Taipei 101 itself is designed to withstand the region's frequent earthquakes and typhoons. It incorporates a tuned mass damper, a large spherical pendulum-like structure, to counterbalance and reduce the building's swaying caused by strong winds and seismic activities.
Fun Fact 3: Many offices of multinational corporations are also located in Taipei 101
There is also a shopping mall that occupies 6 out 101 stories in the building, as well as:
- 2 stories as an indoor observatory deck, and
- Another 2 as an outdoor observatory deck,
which brings us to...
Fun Fact 4: On the 88th and 89th floor, there are indoor observatory decks that overlook the city
Located at around 380 metres (±1,250 feet) above ground at the 88th and the 89th floor, there are two indoor observatories that offer a 360-degree view of the city.
Here are some photos taken from the 88th/89th floor of the indoor observatory decks:
Fun Fact 5: On the 91st and the 101st floor, there are also outdoor observatory decks
The 101st floor was opened for public access since 2019, where only 36 people are allowed access each day with a prior booking.
Fun Fact 6: World's fastest elevators
The elevators in Taipei 101 hold the Guinness World Record for the fastest passenger elevator speed. These high-speed elevators can transport visitors from the 5th floor to the observatory deck on the 89th floor in just 37 seconds.
The building is also recognized for its sustainability features, including rainwater recycling, energy-efficient systems, and the use of eco-friendly materials.
